Chikushi Jogakuen University and Junior College
are located in Dazaifu City, which is known as a place of interest
for its history and historical sites. More than a thousand years
ago, Dazaifu was the center of politics and culture in the western
half of Japan. Here lived such famous people as Michizane Sugawara,
the Deputy Governor of Dazaifu, who is now enshrined in the Dazaifu
Tenmangu Shrine as a God of Learning, and Tabito Ohtomo and Okura
Yamanoue who are known as representative Japanese poets of the ancient
times. Dazaifu has some historically significant sites related to
such ancient samurais as Kiyomori Taira and Takauji Ashikaga.
